FAQ

General information about plantmylk

Does homemade plant-mylk taste like pre-packaged plant-milk in the supermarket?

It’s worth knowing that the impressive taste and foamy texture of many ready-made plant-based milk often come from artificial additives such as oils, sugars, flavor enhancers, artificial additives, and preservatives.

When you make your own plant-based mylk, the key benefit is that it’s 100% natural. You have full control over the ingredients and can avoid the additives that cause ready-made (UHT-treated) plant-based milk in cartons to be classified as “ultra-processed.”

This also means that homemade plant-based Mylk taste 100% natural.

This means that if you only use 1 primary ingredient (e.g. oats) in your homemade Mylk, it will also taste like pure oats.

The very purpose of Nordic Mylk is therefore to help people not only make fresh, healthier, cheaper and more sustainable Mylk - but especially to make tastier Mylk by composing and adding natural flavors that taste better than ready-made plant milk and with precisely the personal flavors that you prefer.

The greatest pleasure of homemade plant-mylk is seeing them as a creative opportunity – just like when making juice, smoothies or milkshakes – to develop and make your own personal favorites!

Can homemade Mylk foam, for example like 'Barista' milk on carton?

No, you simply can't do that naturally, but it's the result of artificial additives and sugar . With the PlanteMalkeren, it's the exact opposite of using natural ingredients to create your own delicious and healthy drinks .

However, you can froth your homemade Mylk - just not to the same extent as ready-made Barista Milk.

If you want to froth your homemade plant milk, e.g. for coffee, there are several things you can do to get more body - see the topic below.

Can I thicken the consistency of my homemade Mylk?

Natural plant-based milk are not thick and this is typically a result of artificial thickeners used in cartons to make the milk appear 'silky'.

Therefore, when you make homemade Mylk, which is filtered using the PlanteMalkeren, it will be relatively thin. However, there are several things you can do to make the consistency of your homemade Mylk thicker, such as:

  • Increased amount of ingredients: Fill the ingredients a little higher than the line in the filter basket (if using the PlanteMalkeren) to make the consistency and taste stronger.
  • Double brew : First you make the Mylk once and then you use the Mylk as water when you make the Mylk a second time . This further enhances the taste and consistency.
  • Flavor development : Almost most importantly, experiment with the addition of additional flavoring ingredients (in addition to the primary ones). You can, for example, make “combination Mylk” by mixing in almonds or soybeans or similar, which makes the mylk thicker in consistency.
  • Adding flavors : There are lots of natural flavors and sweeteners you can add to your plant-based Mylk, such as vanilla, dates, stevia, syrup, honey, (dried) fruits, etc.
  • Hot Mylk: Use the hot PlanteMalk program (if you have a PlanteMalker) , it thickens the consistency – but is not suitable for oat milk, for example, as the result may be too thick.

Can you use finely rolled oats instead of coarsely rolled oats to make oat milk?

Yes, all types of oats can be used.

Should you soak ingredients, such as nuts, oats or beans, in advance?

It is not necessary to soak the nuts, but we recommend it for a smoother Mylk.

Can you use coconut milk or similar instead of regular water when making plant-based Mylk?

Yes, you can do that - it tastes good!

Is it normal for the Mylk to separate?

Yes, that's completely normal. Plant-based milk without additives and fillers naturally separate over time. Just shake it before use and it's ready to enjoy!

How much does it cost to make your own Mylk?

For example, if you use the recommended amount of one cup of almonds, you save about 60-90% compared to ready-made plant milk in cartons and at the same time get a Mylk that is much richer in actual almonds, since many ready-made plant Milk consist primarily of water and additives. Not to mention that you get the remaining plant mass back, which you can use for all types of cooking.

If you make oat Mylk in your PlanteMalker, the savings will be around 90% or higher. Remember, you can use any combination of nuts, seeds, grains and oats, allowing you to control the cost of the plant-based Mylk you decide to make.

How long can homemade Mylk last?

Homemade, Mylk typically stay fresh for 5 days in the refrigerator. You can add a pinch of salt when making the Mylk for extra freshness.

Does the PlanteMalkeren heat the Mylk? Is it still raw?

To protect the nutrients in the ingredients you use, the PlanteMalkeren can make cold Mylk without heating (3-5 min). If you want a heated Mylk, you can choose a longer program (20 min), which in addition to heating the Mylk also makes the consistency a little thicker/firmer.

The PlanteMalkeren's hot program is perfect when you make a Mylk from legumes, such as soybeans, whereby the ingredients are prepared by boiling for 20 minutes at 97-100 degrees (which is necessary when using legumes that are not consumed raw).

How much Mylk is made in one portion with the PlanteMalkeren?

1.2 - 1.5 liters.

Can you make rice milk in the PlanteMalkeren?

Yes, all our products are CE approved.

How do I clean my Plant Milker?

After using the PlanteMalkeren, simply rinse the inside of the jug with water. Remove the filter basket, empty the pulp into a container for storage, and rinse the stainless steel parts on top where the blade is located. The top of the PlanteMalkeren (the control panel) must not get wet as this can damage the motor and control unit.

How should I clean the filter basket?

A sponge and water is usually sufficient, but after a while the filter basket may need a deeper cleaning. Here we recommend a vinegar-water bath. Simply take 4 cups of water and add 4 tablespoons of vinegar, and let it soak overnight.

My PlanteMalker starts blending, stops and then starts blending again, is this normal?

Yes, that's it!

The PlanteMalkeren has a multi-stage grinding and filtering cycle to ensure proper processing of the ingredients. When the cycle is complete, the PlanteMalkeren beeps and the motor stops completely.

How does the PlanteMalkeren differ from a blender with a filter bag?

The PlanteMalkeren is a fully integrated machine that follows a programmed process to make the best Mylk by automatically chopping and separating the pulp from the Mylk, so you don't have to do it afterwards! In less than 5 minutes you have a delicious Mylk, and a plant mass that is sorted out and ready to be used, e.g. in cooking, baking or as breakfast.

Can you make soy mylk in the PlanteMalkeren?

Yes! Here, you simply select the PlanteMalkeren’s hot program, which cooks the soybeans while blending and filtering it. It’s a good idea to soak the soybeans before using them to make plant-based milk.

Can you use fruit in the PlanteMalkeren?

Yes. But it is best to use dried fruit in combination with other ingredients such as nuts, kernels, seeds or similar. Otherwise it will turn into juice instead - which you can also make in the PlanteMalkeren.
